This is one of the finest movies that has been released in the last few years. The script, direction, editing and cinematography are all brilliant. It is a must watch for everyone who likes good cinema. The film has won well deserved awards including the National Film Award for Best Feature Film in Hindi.The film revolves around two individuals- Puroshottam and Prema whose lives take an unexpected turn after they marry each other unceremoniously in order to escape their respective problems. At the beginning, both of them are forced to get married by their respective families. However, after some time they discover some positive qualities in each other and start liking each other genuinely. The rest of the film is about how the couple manages their marriage and lives happily. Puroshottam, a young man who is a promising engineer and has a bright future ahead of him. Due to some unforeseen circumstances, he ends up marrying Prema on a stormy night. Puroshottam has his practical mannerisms while Prema is a practical modern girl who looks beyond materialism in life. Meanwhile, there is another character named Lallan Miyan who is obsessed with Puro's wife Prema. Puro and Prema try to make their marriage work but unknown to both of them, there is a huge power struggle going on between Deepak Tijori and Ajay Maken. The film was made on a budget of Rs. 2 Crores 20 Lacs. The movie was known as 'Fauji' initially and then it was titled as 'Maikaa' but the final title has become 'Shaadi Ke Side Effects'.Kunal Kohli wanted Hrithik Roshan and Minisha Lamba to play the lead roles in this film, but they were busy with other assignments. The film has received mostly positive reviews from critics. Rotten Tomatoes gave it a rating of 64% out of 10 based on 7 reviews. Nikhat Kazmi, writing for Times Of India rated the movie 3.5/5 saying "Shaadi ke Side Effects is racy and high on sustenance. If you like films that fly by pleasantly, this one comes highly recommended!" Taran Adarsh of Bollywood Hungama gave it 3 out of 5 stars saying "On the whole, SWSE works for everyone who loves romance, clean entertainment and dollops of humour." Shahid Khan of Rediff gave it 4/5 stars saying "A balanced mix of romance and comedy".
